The first study group of the school year was Andy Warhol and How Did His Art Pop Up. As he said about himself, "If you want to know all about Andy Warhol, just look at the surface of my paintings and films and me, and there I am. There's nothing behind it."

This study group hosted by Liana Salikhova was a resounding success. Participants gave short presentations, ranging from children's books on Warhol, to his representations of Mao Zedong, to Campbell’s 2002 special edition of Warholian soup cans, and Warhol as capitalist. The still-controversial artist inspired animated discussion and debate; the three hours flew by.
