LET'S LOOK AT ART DOCENT STORIES

About Being a Let's Look at Art Docent

As we get closer to our 50th anniversary and reaching our millionth student, we are looking for more volunteer docents to join us to carry on our award-winning program beyond 50 years. With the shuttering of over 400 classes in the Spring of 2020 due to the COVID-19 virus, we successfully pivoted to deliver our program virtually. We want to continue bringing art education to students both virtually and in person when we are able.

If you're wondering what is so special about Let's Look at Art, listen to what some of our docents have to say.

Becoming a Let's Look at Art docent will be the most rewarding volunteer job you've ever had!

EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF VOLUNTEERING

  • Do you have a passion for art and volunteering?

  • Do you enjoy interacting with children?

  • Are you available during school hours?

Join us and see how rewarding it is to see children's eyes light up as they actively engage with pieces of art through the techniques you'll learn in San Jose Museum of Art's docent training program.

Let's Look at Art expects to serve its millionth student by the upcoming 50th anniversary. Will YOU be the docent who takes us there?

ENRICH YOUR LIFE

Art Field Trips, Guest Speakers, and Study Groups

Beyond inspiring students to love art, docents enjoy opportunities for personal enrichment through day trips to artists' studios and museums, informative lectures, and study groups devoted to various artists and themes.

Docent Training

No art experience is required. Training includes instruction in the basics of art appreciation and visual thinking techniques, group discussions, as well as lectures, reading assignments, writing activities, demonstrations and practice presentations. Docents also learn how to apply public-speaking skills to classroom presentations.

MAKE NEW FRIENDS

Social Activities

Many long-time friendships started during training classes and have been nurtured throughout the years at various social activities. If you're new in town or recently retired, Let's Look at Art is a great way to meet people who share your love of art.

Leadership Opportunities

If you enjoy networking with others who share your passion about bringing art to the classroom, consider getting involved with the Board of Directors in the future. Use and expand your leadership capabilities as you help shape the future of the organization.

DELIVER IMPACT IN SANTA CLARA VALLEY

Since the 1970's

This vibrant organization has served almost 1 million students since 1971. Over 500 docents have experienced the joy of volunteering and bringing art into the classroom. With COVID-19, we’ve gone

virtual to bring our program to the schools and teachers who have counted on us to inspire students

to love art, and think critically.

Learn more about our program by peeking at what we offer the teachers.

Now more than ever, we need your help to keep art alive for the students in our community!
